How it works?

HUDWAY Cast operates as an external heads-up display mirroring your smartphone screen to the front of your eyes. This way, you can view your navigation app directions and stay focused on the road ahead. You can use any app to guide you, be it Waze, or Google Maps.

How does it connect to my smartphone?

There are two ways you can connect HUDWAY Cast to your smartphone — wirelessly (via Wi-Fi) and wired (using enclosed USB OTG cable).

Check out the videos illustrating wireless set-up or download the detailed Installation Guide (.pdf, 594 Kb).

Can I use it without a smartphone?

No, you can't. HUDWAY Cast has no operation system on board, neither has it anything that can be visualized on its own, without a smartphone.

Thus, it either works as an external screen for your smartphone (when used with HUDWAY Cast app), or mirrors your phone screen contents as is (when any other app is used).

Will it work in my car?

HUDWAY Cast needs to be mounted on the dash in front of driver’s eyes otherwise the driver will be unable to see the projection.

Provided that there’s enough space on the dash and there is a cigarette lighter receptacle available to plug in the power cable, the device will work in your vehicle.

Download and print this device drawing to check whether the device will fit in your vehicle. Or, refer to the dimensions provided in the artwork.

Among the vehicles known to us where the device will not fit are Toyota Prius C, BMW Z3, and the like vehicles with very low-sloped windscreen.

How is it powered? Does it have battery?

HUDWAY Cast has no battery and powers from a cigarette lighter receptacle in your vehicle. The end of the cable that plugs in the receptacle has an adaptor equipped with two USB ports, so that you can power HUDWAY Cast and charge two smartphones at the same time. This cable is a default option and is enclosed in every device box.

Can I use my own cable to power the device?

Even though the power port in HUDWAY Cast looks like standard USB 3.0, you will not be able to power the device using a regular USB 3.0 cable.

The thing is that the power port in HUDWAY Cast uses a custom pinout — and while you can plug in your regular USB 3.0 cable, the device will not power on: HUDWAY Cast needs 12V to operate, and standard USB cables will only supply 5V

We recommend that you only use the cables that are supplied with the device, otherwise if any damage to the device occurs as a result of using a non-original cable, this will not be covered by warranty.

What's included in the box?

  • HUDWAY Cast device
  • Dash mount (butterfly-shaped)
  • Power cable (to cigarette lighter)
  • Hex key
  • 4 cable clips
  • Magnet mount for a smartphone
  • Metal plate for the smartphone to be used with the magnet mount
  • OTG cable for wired connection
  • Warranty & Quick Start Guide

Where do you ship from? Will I have to pay customs duties?

    Outstanding Product

Posted by Michael A Stanish on May 20th 2019

This product is amazing! I have both Android and Apple phones that I use with the Hudway Cast. It works as advertised with both products. I prefer the Android compatibility rather than Apple though since anything can be cast and mirrored from Android compared to some limitations with Apple. However, if you’re looking to cast navigation from Waze or Google maps, the Hudway Cast works seamlessly for both Android and Apple. Love this product; however, only recommendation would be to have a brightness adjustment on the Hudway Cast because the display is quite bright at night and somewhat distracting. Other than that, this product is outstanding! Can’t wait to see what other hardware this company releases. Great job!

    Android - Great! / Apple - Disappointing

Posted by Michael Stanish on May 13th 2019

Hudway Cast works as advertised with Android, can cast anything from Android to Hudway Cast; however, does not work with Apple whatsoever. Apple will disconnect every 3minutes or less (wired and wireless connection) with Apple in “low-power” mode trying to cast any navigation app outside of the Hudway app. The connection with Apple will last the longest when the Hudway app is open and running; however, the app crashes about every 10minutes. Product does not appear to be MFi; therefore, not sure why it is advertised that it “Any smartphone, any app” when clearly does not work with Apple. Great product for Android, but not made for Apple.

Hudway Cast + Torque = Great!

Posted by Kevin on Mar 8th 2019

Initial setup can take some time and fiddling with phone settings. I'm using an Android S9+ and did the hardwire connection option. After installing Hudway CAST app, mirrorlink, setting usb default to tethering and configure Torque I plug the phone in after the car is running. Then sometimes it automatically starts Hudway CAST. Sometime I have to manually set USB tethering and then Hudway CAST opens. Sometimes I have to manually start the app.

Once it is connected (and the little android app icon goes away) I can then start either Waze or Torque and it shows up on my screen. It's bright enough to show well in the Arizona sun.

I have Torque configured to show my speed (large numbers), turbo boost (as a dial), rpm (as numbers) and instant mpg (numbers). I quickly have the info I care about without looking down.

Even though I have Android Auto, I've found it's nicer to have the Waze maps on the HUD. It doesn't block the view of my radio, I don't have to look down to see turns and I really don't even need the verbal cues as the directions are hovering just above my hood.

Here is a video of it working (sorry the first part of the video the camera was a bit low)

    Good for the price

Posted by kecsap on Feb 19th 2019

Aftet I recently purchased this product,
they introduced Hudway Drive. I was a bit disappointed, but I checked this Cast and I am happy with the item. Honestly, I don't know what they can improve in Hudway Drive because the weakness of the products are the software on the phone. They are not really good at all. However, using Hudway Cast for simple screen mirroring already works just fine. Easy to reconnect, the USB charges the connected phone quickly. I have no idea what they can improve in this experience. The only improvement on the Drive is the new stand design.

    Hudway Cast rocks!!!

Posted by Bernard Dulay on Feb 14th 2019

Connectivity to the Samsung Note 9 on Android Pie was seamless. Brightness of the projected image to the screen was incredibly bright - even on the lowest setting against afternoon direct sun (in the Philippines). I had Waze on day setting and it actually blocked my field of vision. I now have Waze on night mode. The Hudway Go app is perfect for navigation use only that there were roads not present where I'm at. Already posted updates to the map provider. Interesting that the pointer always snaps to the nearest street (it's a problem when navigating). The car I use is a Honda BR-V and the roof of the gauge cluster is really high partnered with a low seating position the screen is at my line of sight. (Honda BR-V front seats do not have height adjustment). The car also has issues with ride so the screen judders alot on concrete roads (Philippines roads condition is sad). All in all the device is perfect. I was actually planning to mod the dash to make the device "sink" into it but I'll wait for the Hudway Drive.

    Auto connect

Posted by Sumit Dindayal on Oct 31st 2018

So far I love the product it's great! There is one thing tho if we could do would make the product the best and that is if the device could automatically connect to my phone every time I get in the car so in case I am in a rush I dont have to spend a few extra minutes to connect the device before I hit the road. That would top it off for me.
